Principal Scientist, Process Chemistry
Job Summary
A successful candidate will be joining a group of process chemistry scientists with broad deliverables, including designing and delivering manufacturing routes for drug candidates, driving innovative solutions to complex chemistry problems in the development phase and design and execute independent research that supports R&D projects. Implement new Development and/or technology goals and new experimental designs. Manage and prioritize projects within the laboratory. Implement and communicate tactics for achieving overall R&D project goals. Responsible for the management and development of scientific staff as applicable. A Ph.D. in organic chemistry with at least 4 years of experience in process chemistry is required. Candidates must possess a proven track record of solving complex synthetic problems, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Principal Duties
1.Demonstrate independent thinking by proposing and implementing new experimental designs and concepts; Plan and conduct laboratory experiments independently; Keep abreast of relevant literature and maintain a high level of expertise in own field; Understand and manage IP position for a project.
2.Contribute to defining R&D team goals and collaborate with scientists within and outside functional area in achieving them; Either assume process chemistry responsibility for projects when assigned or demonstrate leadership initiative in technical expertise areas to enable the team to achieve project milestones, as per requirement.
3.Identify new technologies and execute implementation to improve productivity and work processes; Ensure integration of new technologies and department initiatives into daily work to enhance productivity.
4.Effectively communicate own and team’s work; Effectively deliver project updates to department and R&D Sr. Management in oral or written forms in the context of project goals.
5.Responsible for group supervision including coaching, mentoring, training, supervising and developing staff when assigned; Responsible for group productivity; Participate in recruiting when needed.
6.Take a leading role in maintaining visibility through presentations and publications.
7.Demonstrate solid knowledge of overall business, competitive and scientific issues of the pharmaceutical industry.
8.Contribute to departmental administration; Demonstrate fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technologies, external collaborations, and travel.
9.Ensure that all group members are trained and comply with applicable regulations and policies; Perform all work in a safe manner; Maintain proper records (notebooks, batch sheets, etc.) per relevant SOPs.
Job Qualifications
- Ph.D. Degree or equivalent with 4+ years of experience in organic chemistry
- Demonstrated broad knowledge of organic chemistry and the ability to independently design and optimize scalable and economical processes
- Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written forms in inter-disciplinary environments
- Must be able to work in a team environment, provide training and guidance to laboratory personnel and act as a leader in absence of supervisor
- Previous supervisory experience
- Detailed understanding of cGMP, safety and other relevant regulations
